Job Description

Your first assignment is to a develop job description for one of the following positions: project manager, superintendent or project engineer (all employees of a general contractor). Each of these individuals will be assigned to a particular project. The project is a $37 million water treatment facility. The general contractor will self-perform the site work, foundation work and the cast-in-place concrete work, representing 39% of the total construction cost. There will be 14 subcontractors on the project. This facility is located north of the downtown area of Jacksonville.

Before you begin, draw a small organizational chart of the project showing the relative positions of all major jobsite salaried personnel employed by the general contractor. With this organizational chart in mind, draft a job description for one of the positions. These descriptions will be used to provide guidance to the jobsite personnel when they perform their duties and they will also serve as a means by which performance evaluations will be made.

The job description is to be submitted in hardcopy at the beginning of class on September 5. Be sure to keep an electronic copy of the letter for subsequent reference.
